Russian Language Sequence
At LAITS, I worked as a Student Technology Assistant (STA) with a focus on graphics and illustration. I was hired specifically to work on the Russian Language Sequence—online Russian language courses at UT Austin. There were 3 different courses: RUS 406, 407, and 412. These online courses featured illustrations showing the daily life of Polina and her friend Oleg the Hedgehog. These illustrations feature various relatives and animals interacting in different settings.
Below are examples of some illustrations I created in order to highlight the style and consistency throughout the project. As a team, over 100 illustrations were created throughout the duration of this project. This was a highly collaborative project, and I’m so proud of my team!
I was also in charge of creating banners for each course. Each banner had 7 different color variations, based on provided hex codes from the 7 different units. All banners were inspired by Russian art and painting styles such as khokhloma, a style of Russian wood painting.
I worked as a student Art Director and Illustrator. I managed the project, made it very clear what the style guidelines were, assigned out illustrations, assigned deadlines, kept track of progress with spreadsheets and contact sheets, provided feedback, and approved finalized illustrations, which I sent to our client. It was my job to make sure each illustration fulfilled our client’s wants and needs and conveyed actions and important things in Russian culture clearly.
